About the ESCC PDF Print E-mail
Written by Peter Dulley
The ESCC was founded in 1979 and is based in Stockholm. It is focused on the cultural and social needs of Sweden's English speaking community. While the majority of our members are from the United States of America and the British Commonwealth, we welcome anyone who wants to participate in cultural or social activities where English is the spoken language. Despite our diverse backgrounds, we see the most important aim of the club as being to celebrate the "ties that bind us", namely, our cultural and linguistic heritage.

Benefits:

Newsletter
You'll get the English Speaking Community Club's stimulating Newsletter at least 4 times a year with news about club activities, interesting travel articles and featured writing from our own membership

Privileges
As an ESCC member you will be entitled to discounts and privileges at the following places:

- Martin Olsson,a wholesale chain that sells everything from food to cleaning supplies

- Svanströms, one of Sweden’s biggest chains selling office supplies and stationery

- Hewlett-Packard – at the HP internet store.

Martin Olsson card
Martin Olsson is a wholesale chain that sells everything from food to cleaning articles. Office supplies are sold on the premises through the stationery store Svanströms. To shop at both requires a Martin Olsson membership card. Members of the ESCC may use the Club's own Martin Olsson card upon request.

The Aims of the ESCC:

-
To encourage the integration of newcomers, especially those who speak English, into Swedish society in general, and everyday life in Stockholm in particular.

- To promote cultural and ethnic diversity, first and foremost in Greater Stockholmby means of our uniquely international character, rooted in the global English language - not in any one country or culture.

- To help our members to maintain and develop their English language and communication skills, by means of our range of activities.

Some of our Activities:

- Family Celebrations such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Spring Picnic

- Activity Groups including the following:

- Armchair Philosophy; Stockholm Walks; Poetry and Pizza and Friendly Golf

- Social and cultural events including: pub evenings; wine or whiskey tasting; film evenings; visits to interesting places; travel talks; and dinners with invited speakers
